Spoken by Irene:
Tell me, what is it like out there, dear people do
Is the sky a dull grey, or is it sparkling blue
Are the children still playing, out there on the streets?
Exchanging their comic books for just a few sweets
So much noise around me, I wonder how you fare
Long ago it was so calm and less smoke in the air
You say buses are red and two stories high
And cars by the thousand go rushing by
In my day it was trams and the clip-clop of a horse
But the young of today would not remember, of course
I know I just sit here, day after day
But pity me not, for it is better this way
I can go back in time, which you cannot do
And remember my youth, I could see just like you
But those days are gone and will never return
My eyes may see darkness, but my thoughts churn
No light to distract me, l don't have a care
I just want to know, what goes on out there
