I've just received some money, now that I am twenty-one
One thousand pounds exactly and told to have some fun
I'll go and have my hair done, I think I'll have it Brown
Feeling quite excited, I made my way downtown
I'll buy the sweet old lady, who lives next door
A dainty china brooch and roses galore
I will buy a long dress, all shimmering pink
A furry nylon coat, the colour of mink
A crystal bracelet, all shiny and bright
To move my hand, causes a myriad of lights
Dainty high shoes, but they must blend and tone
Gold would be nice, with lots of coloured stones
I always love to smell nice, so perfume is a must
Of all the ones I'd choose, I think it would be musk
I gaze into the mirror, I can't believe that's me
As pretty as a picture, like a fairy on a tree
One by one, I gently put them all away
Dreaming about the party, I'll give next Saturday
No jeans or disco music, on that my special night
But a little band of musicians, playing by candlelight
I must look lovely, for I have reason you see
The boy that I love, may fall in love with me
