Spoken by Irene:
Upon my bed is a work of art
I treasure it beyond all else
Given to me some years ago
By my dear grandmother
I can see her in my mind
White hair put into a bun
Coiled on top of her dear head
Small and plump, sitting there
Her fingers nimbly stitching
Tiny squares of coloured hue
Each one pretty, each one neat
Making a bedspread just for me
Some in purple, some in green
And some in white and red
Each one done with loving fingers
By a lady I'll never forget
