Irene was born to Dutch and Spanish parents in London
She was challenged from an early age with ill health and over the years suffered with extreme pain, but always managed to smile and make people smile
Kind and considerate, Irene always put other people first-she was a joyful spirit
She married Fred and went to live in Rhodesia (as was)
Her daughter, Debbie was born in Bulawayo and grew up in Salisbury
Debbie first met Mark at the Spillway Restaurant (outside Salisbury) when they were teenagers
Irene made her living as a singer in Rhodesia and appeared on television singing a medley of songs
She won a contract to have a weekly singing slot on the radio, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to sanctions
Irene returned from Africa in the seventies and spent some time moving from place to place with Debbie
She met Peter when they were next door neighbours in Acton
Irene moved to Southampton with Peter and they married in the early eighties
At the same time, Debbie moved to Portsmouth with Mark and they married in the late eighties
Irene was an intrepid adventurer, travelling around the world
She was very artistic and loved painting, writing stories, writing poetry and singing
Irene had a great passion for life and really loved music, especially drums and piano, and was always the first on the dance floor
She did not conform to stereotypes and adored high heeled shoes-even her slippers had heels!
Irene loved having long nails, painted all colours and recently liked dying her hair pink!
She loved customizing her clothes by adding sparkles and glitter
Irene took great joy in the small things in life like listening to music, playing cards and being with family-she adored Christmas!
To those she loved, she was very loyal, but could be fierce when pushed!
Irene was a wonderful person who was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say
She will be with us in our hearts forever!
