Week commencing Sunday 22nd April 2001
Sunday 22nd April
Back
to Bangkok for a couple of days to reduce the jet-lag.
We've got a great view of the river again !
The amazing display in the first photo is
made up of huge orchids on a fountain in the foyer.
(With the outside temperature rising to around 40 C, the air conditioning was
such a relief !)
The second photo shows the chandelier on the first floor.
When
we got back to our room, the housekeeper had laid out our bits and bobs in neat
rows in the bathroom !
We
travelled to the other side of the city to try out this Indian restaurant in
a hotel.
(The view from our table was pretty impressive !)
Monday 23rd April
Excursion day today ! Stopped
off here to watch them making sugar from coconut milk.
We decided to check out the Floating Market.
It was incredibly hot, even in the shade. We really felt sorry for the guy tending
the boiling pots !
These boats are the ones made famous
in one of the James Bond films - they don't half shift !
They are not allowed in the floating market itself, so they dropped us off at
the start of it.
They
cook food in the boats and sell it to the tourists.
The one on the right is making cocnut pancakes - Peter tried these, they were
yummy !
On the left she is making a stir fry meal.
(This may well be where we got food poisoning !)
At
the centre of the floating market there is a shopping mall selling clothes and
souvenirs. This weaving loom was making Thai silk - very labour intensive, but
the quality of the finished product was excellent !
The
guy standing had an unpronouncable name, so asked us to call him Michael 8-)
He did a great job - a mine of local information.
Irene decided she 'wished' to have a salad, so we called down for room service!
This
is the Author's Lounge in the Oriental Hotel, where they serve afternoon tea.
Incredible setting - like going back in time !
Tuesday 24th April
Approaching
England - you can tell by the cloud cover 8-)
This
is our 'local' 8-)
The restaurant is upstairs - nice decor !
West Quay shopping mall in Southampton.
We think it's the best we've seen (and that includes San Francisco)
Our apartment in Park View, Southampton.
These are two views of the lounge/diner (note the huge TV 8-)
Master bedroom with view to patio...
...and
patio itself (with shed and low maintenance, fake fig tree 8-)
En-suite bathroom (bigger than it
looks) and kitchen (also bigger than it looks).
Finally,
passage from hallway to bedroom two, complete with fine art !
(Prints for sale, large variety of subjects available - contact Irene@wiziweb.com
for details !)
Well, that's all folks. Hope you enjoyed the tour !
