Week commencing Sunday 15th April 2001

Sunday 15th April

Opposite Darling Harbour is a new restaurant complex, built since we last visited Sydney.

Went to see 'The Gift' - excellent, scary movie !

Monday 16th April

Peter spent the day working on the laptop.
Irene went walkabout in Sydney !

Tuesday 17th April

This Aussie guy was playing Didgeridoo and Guitar at the same time.
(The parrot on his head seemed to be enjoying the music !)

They love to light up their trees here - one of the things we love about Sydney.

We sneaked into this seafood restaurant just across from Doyles.
(We won't tell Doyles if you don't !)

This is the row of restaurants from the outside.
They have made the outline of a ship's masts in lights - really impressive !
(Facing the Opera House next to Doyles - top location !)

The block on the left is the York Apartments.
We are on the ninth floor, but it has another 20 floors above that !

Wednesday 18th April

This sign is at the entrance to The Rocks.
(Where the convicts originally landed all those years ago)
It is now a tourist area with restaurants, quaint shops and street artists - very lively !

On the way back from the Rocks we decided to have a drink in one of the top hotels in Sydney - this is where most of the film stars and rock stars stay when they are visiting the city.

This display was in the centre of the foyer !

Thursday 19th April

Last day at Darling Harbour 8-(

They have these Water Sculptures everywhere. Gives a great feel to the place !
(Southampton could do with a few of these 8-)

This strange bird is quite common here.
(Irene was fascinated by the beak !)

This wall of water came on and off at random, so you had to be careful not to get soaked !

Friday 20th April

To the viewing platform on top of the tallest tower in Sydney !
(Just above the two revolving restaurants)

You can just make out the monorail track between the two tall buildings.

The first picture above is looking west to Darling Harbour.
The second picture above is looking north west towards the Citibank building, where Peter worked in 1990.

East is Hyde Park (first picture above) with its many walking routes.
The Hilton is pictured in the second picture above - you can see the swimming pool attached !

Finally, looking north towards our apartment.

Last visit to Doyles this trip 8-(
Pictured with Irene are the Manageress (centre) and our waitress (right)
They were sad to lose us, but we said we'd be back !

Saturday 21st April

This is the Business Class lounge at Sydney airport - the best of the lot.
There was a full buffet (constantly refreshed) and the glass area along the back was stocked full of drink !

The red line is our route from Sydney to Bangkok.
