Week commencing Sunday 2nd July 2000

Sunday 2nd July

There's another art exhibition in Union Square today...

These pictures are views of San Francisco

We liked this weird sculpure !

Monday 3rd July

Due to an accident on the floor above these guys got stuck !
(It was quite a while before anyone came and rescued them 8-)

This Harley was in mint condition - all the engine parts were chrome plated !

Happy Birthday Irene !
(The bottle of Bolly was quite a find over here !)

Tuesday 4th July

Apparently they're celebrating some sort of Indpendence here today 8-)

If you look carefully at the centre of the picture, you should be able to see a tunnel entrance.
This is the other side of the optical illusion we previously photographed !

Chinatown on the way to Fishermans Wharf.
American flags are everywhere !

Finally made it to the Cannery (caught the wrong bus !)

Wow ! You can win a Simpsons BARB-B-Q Grill !
(All you have to do is sing the National Anthem 8-)

It was starting to get VERY crowded at this point.

Further along, towards the Wharf, we found this guy painted gold !
Rings a bell, somehow 8-)

We pre-booked to see the fireworks from a boat.

The seagulls came in really close to the boat begging for scraps. The tourists keep them well fed !

We cruised around the harbour before the fireworks.
This is the new baseball stadium all lit up - there was a game being played as we passed by !

Next to the stadium was this marina - full of yachts !

The cloud dispersed a bit for this shot.

After the cruise, the boats took up their pre-arranged positions ready for the fireworks.

After a long wait in the freezing cold, the main attraction was ready to start !

Ooh !

Ahh !

Wow !

Cool !

Excellent !

Woohoo !

The fireworks were really great, but the journey back to the apartment was a real nightmare 8-(
There were thousands of people leaving afterwards and we couldn't get a taxi for love nor money.
So we headed for the cablecar terminal, only to be told that services were suspended for the night.
We ended up walking all the way back, which didn't do Irene's ankle any good at all (she had recently gone over on it).
All credit to Irene, though - she didn't complain once and took it all with true grit !

Wednesday 5th July

Our last day in San Francisco today...

Back for one last look at Lori's.
We knew the form by now, so ordered a salad split for two - excellent !

These pinball machines were in working order.
(Peter has fed them with quite a few quarters !)

This is one of the waitresses at Lori's.
The service here was really excellent.
(We'll really miss this place)

Just so we don't forget what the money looks like:

$20

$10

$5

$1

Thursday 6th July

The flight back to England was nothing like the flight over 8-(

This is the view we got of the screen !
(The guy in front was about seven feet tall with a huge head 8-)

Standing up and leaning to one side we could just about see the screen.

This was supposed to be a view of the route we took, but it didn't come out very well.

We got talking to this Indian girl on the plane who went to pretty much the same places we did !

Well, that's all folks !
Our time in America was very enjoyable - it was a REAL eye opener in lots of ways !
We would very much like to visit other parts of the US of A - watch this space !
